2. Course description The course is designed to support you in preparing or starting in a teaching role in post-compulsory education, enhancing your knowledge and your professional practice in the workplace. The Award contains 3 units (12 credits) on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).  The units are:  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training sector: 3 credits • Understanding and using inclusive learning and teaching approaches in education and training: 6 credits • Understanding assessment in education and training: 3 credits  The qualification consists of 45 contact hours and 45 non-contact hours, which cover taught and personal study time.  You'll be studying alongside other professionals so there will be plenty of opportunity to share ideas and best practice. You'll also have the support of your tutor who will offer you guidance which will enable you to succeed on the course. You will also be required to complete a 15 minute micro teach session towards the end of the course to assist towards evidence for unit 3 of the qualification requirements.

3. Entry requirements You must have all of the following:  Qualifications:      The equivalent of literacy level 2 (for example GCSE English grades A-C)     A desire to teach adults or already teaching adults in the FE and Skills sector  Personal Skills: Candidates are required to demonstrate personal skills at Level 2 or 3 in English. These personal skills are assessed, as part of the application process, by an interview and initial assessment. IT skills would also be beneficial and candidates should also be familiar with word processing and presentation software. These skills are deemed essential to assist with the completion of 2 required assignments for the candidate's qualification.  You will also need to attend an information session at our Clarendon campus 4. Equipment required No equipment required 5. Assessment method The course is assessed by two assignments and practical teaching skills are assessed by a microteaching lesson (15 minutes) whereby the student teaches other students on a topic of their choice (such as a hobby), including writing a lesson plan and activities for the group, or the observation of one of their lessons.
