The Level 3 Diploma requires successful completion of 11 units. The programme consists of five core units (which must be studied) and optional units which have been pre-selected to meet industry needs. Core units: health & safety in the engineering workplace; communications for engineering technicians; engineering project; Maths for engineering technicians; mechanical principles and applications. Optional units may include: properties and applications of engineering materials; further mechanical principles and applications; electro, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and devices; computer aided drafting in engineering; application of mechanical systems in engineering; electrical and electronic principles.

About this course
Attendance is one day and one evening a week for two years. Students are expected to consolidate their learning through study at home. The 11 units are split over two years. Year 1 students attend on Tuesdays and Year 2 students attend on Wednesdays (may be subject to change).

Course programme
Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (120 credits).
BTEC programmes are assessed by a range of methods, which include assignments, projects, case studies, practical exercises and assessments. Success in this intensive programme requires substantial home-study to consolidate theory and for completion of assignments to meet deadlines. Learning Resources are available via the VLE (virtual learning environment) and Library.
