The BTEC Level 3 Diploma requires successful completion of 9 units including: Communications for Technicians; Mathematics for Technicians; Electrical & Electronic Principles; Applications of Electronic Devices & Circuits; Electronic Measurement & Test; Applications of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs); Project. After successful completion of the first year, you may wish to sign up for Extended Diploma which requires successful completion of a further 9 units.

As part of your programme you will also complete functional skills in English, Maths and ICT at the correct level for your programme. You may also complete the wider Key Skills: Working With Others and Improving Own Learning & Performance

About this course




The programme is full-time for one year, starting September each year and ending in June/July. The exact days and hours depend on the timetable but you can expect to attend for a minimum of 16 hours per week. Please bring a notebook, pens and a calculator. Those wishing to continue onto the for Extended Diploma will attend for a further year on a full time basis.

Course programme

This programme is ideal for students who wish to enhance their employability, or want to progress to university.
You can achieve an Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering after the first year. If after successfully completing the Diploma you carry onto the second year you can achieve an Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering. These are nationally recognised and respected qualifications, accepted by employers, universities and professional engineering institutions.
The programme is assessed by a range of methods, including projects, presentations, case studies, in-class assignments and coursework. There will also be external tests in some of the subjects you will study.
