The course consists of a diverse range of skills and techniques that are delivered through an intense timetable of masterclasses, practical demonstrations and student led sessions that allow the student to build an advanced portfolio of fashion based practice. All briefs are delivered by industry professionals with lectures delivered by working practioners, photographers, stylists and designers.
Students will expand their understanding of contextual investigation and research for fashion design, applications and techniques for fashion presentation, design, proportion and balance, creative pattern cutting, fitting and construction, applied decoration and garment production using manufacturing and couture techniques. Projects delivered during the 2014 Diploma included Women’s tailoring, deconstructed and reconstructed menswear, styling and shoot direction and portfolio presentation.
All Extended Diploma students are required to research, develop and produce a Final Major Project which results in them producing a final collection of at least three complete outfits based on their chosen theme. This project showcases all the skills that they have learnt throughout their study.
Students attend London exhibitions and are encouraged to attend University Open Days to allow them to consider University progression. Students who wish to progress to University receive strong and focussed support in UCAS applications from a dedicated in house team.
