This course is an ideal introduction into a fantastic area of interest and provide a solid basis for a career in child care whether that's in a nursery, nannying, a crèche or pre-school setting. The OCN Level 3 Diploma has been carefully tailored to provide you with a comprehensive knowledge of the complete child care sector to cater for children aged 0 to 11 years old.

The course will initially teach you about the current child protection laws and regulations, health and safety and children's rights. From here you will progress to acquire a complete understanding of what's required to provide for a child's development and learning needs.

Upon completion of the training you will have gained an understanding of the role of learning and development in child care settings. You will also understand the legislation involved in child care and the structure of educational frameworks.

Qualifications

The Open College Network (OCN) is a principal UK body acknowledged by the UK Qualifications and Curriculum Authority. Being awarded this diploma by OCN satisfies the current OFSTED requirements for those intending to work in the child care sector.

Successful completion of the course will see you awarded with a National Open College Network Authority (NOCN) Level 3 Diploma in Child Care, Learning and Development.

This course also qualifies you to progress to the next level and take the GOAL Level 3 National Vocational Qualification in Children's care, Learning and Development course. The GOAL qualification in child care meets current Sure Start standards which is essential if you have plans to run a child care service of any description.

The OCN Level 3 Diploma will also prepare you to move onto the EDI Level 3 Certificate in Children's Care, Learning and Development. This is an occupational qualification and is listed on the Children's Workforce and Development Council's website. Should you wish to proceed onto this course you will need to contact an EDI centre and arrange it directly with them.

Study Details
The five study sections within this course are spread over three workbooks. The workbooks are continually reviewed to ensure they best meet your needs and present information in a coherent manner that will allow you to study at your own pace.

The study units have been designed so that each new unit allows you to build on knowledge gained in the previous units.

Upon completion of each of the five study units you will be required to complete a written assignment. You assignment is then submitted to you personal tutor for marking. When you have successfully completed all five assignments you will have qualified for the OCN Diploma in Child Care, Learning and Development.

Note: The OCN will moderate students' assessments three times a year. Submission dates and deadlines for moderation are issued to you when you enroll on the course.

The average duration of the course is approximately 300 hours of study time.
