Course programme

On successful completion of Level 3 Technical Diploma in Hairdressing there are career opportunities to work in salons, be self-employed, session styling, and cruise liners. There is also the opportunity to progress onto higher education and also work on a self-employed basis. If you decide to continue your studies you could take additional qualifications in media make up, Beauty Therapy, holistic therapy, fitness or a HNC/HND to widen your employment prospects.
On successful completion of the course you could progress onto the Level 4 Salon Management course, apply for university to study a course in this field or you could look for employment as a Senior Stylist.

This Course is suitable for anybody over the age of 16.

You will need a full NVQ Level 2 qualification or Level 2 Cutting & Styling and Level 2 Colouring & Styling, a Grade 4 or above in English, a college reference and a successful interview. Each candidate will be considered on their experience, suitability and previous course references showing good attendance and behaviour and a genuine interest in the hairdressing industry. You will be interviewed as part of the College Welcome Event or if currently studying at Cambridge Regional College, will need you to complete an internal progression form and attend a progression interview with the beauty therapy team. You will be required to complete a trade test.

In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.

We want you to achieve to the very best of your ability at CRC. To make this happen we offer both learning and personal support by specialist staff tailored to meet your specific needs.

The skills you are learning should be practised outside college in order to develop and progress, and your practical skills will be supplemented with theoretical study necessary to successfully complete the assessments. You will also need to complete some form of work experience. You will need to set time aside at home to work on your portfolio.

The programme is assessed throughout the year in a number of ways:
• By demonstrating your practical competence on your peers in the college salon and in case studies to a level required in employment. You may also be encouraged to work on family, friends and fee paying clients in the college salon.
• Answering oral questions as part of the practical assessment to demonstrate your treatment knowledge and understanding
• Compiling a portfolio of work undertaken during the year
• Answering written questions and assignments set by your tutor
• Taking part in an externally moderated practical assignment – This may take place outside of your regular college hours.
• On-line testing

You may be required to provide clients for assessment as the college cannot guarantee client availability
