Please note that the HND Business specifications are currently under review by Pearson and new units are due to be published in early 2016. We will update the programme details as soon as we have these. The units taught up to now are as follows (these will be updated once the new specifications have been published):
Mandatory core units: Business Decision Making; Aspects of Contract and Negligence for Business; Research Project.
Specialist units: Business Ethics; Working With & Leading People; Sales Planning & Operations; Internet & E-Business; Administrative Services.
All core and specialist units must be completed and passed for the award to be given following completion of the programme.
The course is accredited under the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) regulates the qualification and Highbury College.

Course duration: 1 year
Course location: Course location: Highbury College (main campus), Tudor Crescent, Portsmouth, PO6 2SA
Mode of delivery: Part-time, 1 evening per week (Wednesdays).
Contact hours: 3 hours per week. There is also a 1 hour tutorial slot each week and you are expected to attend a 1:1 tutorial once each term.

Achievement: The Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma is achieved by passing all units on this top up programme.
The Pearson BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma in Business is 120 credits, so successful completion of the top up (125 credits across 8 units) will lead to the award of the Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma in Business (245 credits total).

The awarding body for the Pearson BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma in Business is Pearson and Highbury College is the provider of the programme of study.
Teaching: Lectures, workshops, online learning and weekly tutorials.
Independent study: You will need to undertake significant independent study outside of taught sessions. For every 1 taught hour students should spend at least 2 hours studying independently away from College, equating to at least 8 hours per week. The Research Project and Administrative Services units are delivered on a self-study basis with online support and require significant independent study.
Assessment methods: Assessment is on a continuous basis with up to two assignments in each unit. Assessment is via coursework which takes a variety of forms including written reports, presentations, and written reflections.
Staff: Full-time, part-time and associate lecturers (corporate associates) may teach on the HND Business programme. Staff teaching on the programme have a variety of commercial/industrial and/or teaching experience.
