Level 5 standalone Specialist Diplomas in Education and Training are qualifications which extend into investigation and research into current practice and the theories and models relating to education and training, in the context of the specialism selected. Throughout the programme, candidates will demonstrate their ability to transfer the findings of their research into their own practice. In this qualification candidates will demonstrate their understanding of the impact of a specific impairment on teaching and learning. They will analyse the factors influencing inclusive practice for disabled learners and how the social model of disability impacts on learning opportunities. Candidates will demonstrate that they can effectively plan and deliver inclusive teaching and learning for disabled learners and will carry out extensive research and analysis into specific disabilities. They will also reflect on and evaluate their own practice.

The Level 5 Specialist Diploma is a qualification which has a practice requirement. It is an 'in service' qualification designed for those working, or wishing to work as teachers/trainers disabled learners. The course is made up of 3 units:


  • Inclusive Teaching & Learning for Disabled Learners
  • Action Learning for Teaching in a Specialist Area of Disability
  • Understanding Theories and Frameworks for Teaching Disabled Learners
