AS Level in Art and Design (Photography)
Course summary:
This one-year course leads to an AS level, which is a qualification in its own right. It can also be used as the first half (50%) of an A level qualification.
It is 4.5 hours per week
Course content:
A one year course comprising of
two practical units for the AS level:-
* Unit 1 is a portfolio of work exploring and experimenting with various techniques, processes and genres.
* Unit 2 is an externally set assignment developed over a period of time.
On the A level course with an endorsement in Photography, students will complete practical and critical work associated with chemical and digital means.
Students will keep a journal/sketchbook of their research and analysis addressing visual and technical aspects of the subject. Students will discuss and assess contemporary and historical examples of photography to aid their awareness of the subject.
Students' work may include one or more area(s) of Photography, such as those listed below:
- Portraiture, documentary and/or photo-journalism
- Landscape photography (urban, rural and coastal)
- Working from objects, still life or from the natural world
- Experimental imagery
Qualifications achieved:
GCE AS Level Art and Design awarded by AQA
Progression opportunities:
Successful students could progress to an A2 Level in Art (Photography).
The AS level in Photography will support other AS level subjects as an entry qualification into many H.E courses.
