What do I need to know or be able to do before taking this course?
You do not need to have taken Business Studies at GCSE level, but any student who has is expected to have achieved at least a grade B. You should have C grades in Mathematics and English Language.

What will I learn on this course?
AS
This course covers all the main areas of business activity and gives you a good overview of what businesses do and the environment in which they operate. You will learn the basics of;
· Marketing
· Finance and accounting
· Management of business operations
· Organisation of businesses and the management of the people who work in them.
· External influences and constraints on businesses: economic, legal, social, environmental
· Business objectives and strategy

In this course the same topics are covered by in greater depth. You are expected to be more analytical in your thinking and should be able to evaluate problems.
What kind of assessments will I have to complete to get my qualification?

The assessment is by two written exam papers:
1. BS1 The Business Framework
2. BS2 Business Functions

The assessment is by two written examinations.
1. BS3 Business Decision Making
2. BS4 Business Strategy and Practice
What kind of student is this course suitable for?
To succeed in Business Studies you need to be numerate and to be able to think logically. The successful student is one who uses the course to develop a genuine personal understanding of the realities of business activity rather than to accumulate a body of factual knowledge.
In the lessons your teachers will expect you to know something about what is happening in the business world and in the economy. That means that you will have to read the newspapers and watch relevant TV programmes.
What could I do with a qualification in this subject?
Many of the students who take A level Business Studies go on to take degrees in Business, management or a related subject.
Although the course is not vocational, it is a useful subject to take if you are intending to embark on a business career after your A levels.
