The Communication and Culture AS Level explores the full range of human communication, not just written texts. This includes communication between individuals, mass communication and communication technology.
What will I be doing?
You will learn about a range of communication theories, with particular emphasis on mass communication. You will also study verbal and non-verbal, intrapersonal and group communication. The course also involves presentation work.
How will I be assessed?
The assessment is a mixture of coursework (50%) and examination (50%). The coursework is titled "The Individual and Contemporary Culture" - you will have the opportunity to redraft and perfect your assignments. The examination, under the heading "Understanding Communication and Culture" is one hour and forty five minutes in duration and will be in May or June. You will also be assessed by your teacher on your writing and contributions throughout the course.
Where do I go from here?
Degree courses in Communication Studies, Social Sciences, Journalism or Media. A useful basis for careers in which dealing with people is important such as social work, personnel, advertising, teaching or business.
