AS Level Physical Education
Candidates will use evaluation and appreciation of their
own or others' sporting performance to acquire and apply their knowledge,
skills and understanding.
The content of
the course will address current contemporary topics in sport such as the
impact in the use of ergogenic aids, technology and increasing
commercialisation of sport.
Two units are studied:
1 . Opportunities for and the effects of leading a healthy and active

Candidates are assessed on their ability to perform, analyse and evaluate
the execution of core skills/techniques in isolation and in structured
practice as a player, referee or leader. (2 out of 3).
This one-year course builds on the studentâ€ s
experience from GCSE to enhance their knowledge and increase their
understanding of the factors that affect performance and participation in
physical education. The qualification looks to equip students with skills
and knowledge required for higher education or the world of work. The
course offers students the opportunity to experience and develop an
interest in a variety of roles in sport such as performer, official and/or
leader/coach at AS and then be able to specialise in one at A2.
Unit 1 is assessed by a two hour examination

GCE AS Level Physical Education
After the successful completion of the AS course,
students may progress to the A2 level.

addition, if you have just left school, you may be eligible for an
Educational Maintenance Allowance.
