The A-Level Psychology is an OCR accredited programme. It is a 2-year course consists of Advanced Subsidiary GCE (AS) and Advanced GCE (A2) in Psychology.
The course aims to give the students an introduction to the world of psychology by conducting research through a practical approach as well as learning about prime psychological studies and some of the classics in research studies. The course also gives the candidates an awareness of the issues and debates in psychology.
The content is aimed at capturing natural interest and inspiring learning and at the same time developing understanding and knowledge at an advanced level in preparation for higher education.
At A2 the learners are offered the opportunity to learn about applied areas of psychology in chosen areas of interest, for example forensic psychology. By the end of the course, the learners will have a wide knowledge of psychology, will have developed a sound understanding of issues, debates and perspectives in psychology and will have a good grounding in preparation for higher education and an awareness of how to apply psychology to their everyday life and the world around them.
Advanced Subsidiary GCE in Psychology
The Advanced Subsidiary GCE is both a ‘stand-alone’ qualification and also the first half of the corresponding Advanced GCE. The AS GCE is made up of two mandatory units, which are externally assessed.
Unit 1: Cores Studies
- Psychological approaches: social, cognitive, physiological, developmental and individual differences.
- Issues, debates, perspectives and methods arising from Psychological studies
Unit 2: Psychological Investigation
The Advanced GCE in Psychology
Unit 1: Applied Psychology
This unit will include four options, from which the learners will choose two.
- Forensic psychology.
- Health and clinical psychology.
- Psychology of sport and exercise
- Psychology of education
Unit 2: Approaches and Research Methods in Psychology

Progression
The successful completion of this course will lead to the Advanced General Certificate in Psychology. You can use your certificate to apply to any university of your choice for a degree course in psychology, management, social work or health programmes including nursing.
What you need to join this course:
You no need specific prior learning. What you need to have is simply some excellent communication and literacy skills at a level equivalent to grade C in English.
