AS Level Textiles (Edxcel)
This is a Fine Art based fashion textiles course, aimed at developing students†skills, techniques and creativity in fashion and textiles. The aim of the course is to develop a highly ambitious and creative portfolio of work underpinned by solid skills, techniques and knowledge of the textile and fashion world. Thoughtful and creative approach to ideas is encouraged, backed up with teaching strong skills and providing a wide visual language vocabulary.

What will I be doing?
The course will start with an in depth introduction to visual language and formal elements. You will be taught a variety of drawing methods, markmaking methods and painting to build up your skills and give you the foundation to develop your creativity and ideas in your specialised area. You will then go on to develop your skills through small workshops in textiles and fashion. Developing skills in weaving print making â€" photographic silkscreening, fabric manipulation dyeing natural and synthetic, pattern making and a variety of sewing techniques. You will learn how to develop ideas through traditional means and computer based mediums. You will be introduced to the fashion and textiles world through visits to shops, designers and galleries. You will go on to develop the skills you have learnt to create your own work based on a theme.

How will I be assessed?
A Level Textiles comprises 4 units. 2 externally set exam assignments and 2 internally set assignments. 2 units will be studied in the first year and 2 units will be studied in the second year. All units will be internally marked and externally moderated. 2 formal assessments a year will take place with 1:1 tutorial feedback. Continuing assessing will take place through weekly, marked homework

Where can I go after completing this course?
Completion of AS Level will allow progression onto A Level course. After completing of the A Level course, you may go on to a Foundation Course at university or Art College to further your design career.
