Mandatory unit: Principles of tackling substance misuse

Core unit: Assessment, planning and care for substance misuse practitioners
This unit is delivered over 10 three-hour sessions and focuses on the skills needed to engage substance misusers in the assessment and care planning process. The wider context and aims will be considered alongside specific interventions and case management. For example, information giving, inter-agency liaison and risk management.

Option unit:

This unit is delivered over 10 three-hour sessions and covers the content of the three options:

Providing harm minimisation to drug users

Providing detoxification services to substance misusers
This element will develop the skills required to provide detoxification services to substance misusers, for example, supporting individuals through detoxification programmes; pharmacological and psychosocial treatment options; care planning for detoxification and managing drug testing policies and procedures.

Providing rehabilitation services to substance misusers
