Course programme
Three mandatory units:
- Reduce risks to health and safety in the workplace
- Communicate effectively in the workplace
- Develop yourself in the job role
Optional units (minimum of 11 credits in total) to include:
A minimum of two credits from:
- Work with others and follow reporting procedures (two credits)
- Work individually and follow reporting procedures (three credits)
And a minimum of nine credits from:
- Clean and maintain internal surfaces and areas (four credits)
- Clean and maintain external surfaces and areas (four credits)
- Deal with routine waste (three credits)
- Clean washrooms and replenish supplies (three credits)
- Clean high risk areas (five credits)
- Clean confined spaces (four credits)
- Clean food areas (four credits)
- Deep clean equipment and surfaces (six credits)
- Clean, maintain and protect semi-hard and hard floors (four credits)
- Clean and maintain soft floors and furnishings (four credits)
- Clean glazed surfaces and facades (three credits)
- Deal with non-routine waste (three credits)
- Carry out maintenance and minor repairs (three credits)
- Perform street cleansing manually (three credits)
- Perform street cleansing mechanically (four credits)
- Work safely at heights (three credits)
- Use a water-fed pole system to clean windows and facades (four credits)
Each candidate is assessed on their ability to perform tasks competently, and whether they have the correct knowledge and understanding to be competent at those tasks. The qualification is built around key tasks from the job role and is delivered in the workplace by a qualified assessor and involves working through the chosen units. The course is assessed through observations, underpinning knowledge questions and the development of a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate competence. Candidates will be provided with the course materials.
