Enjoy painting from the nude model for a whole two days in the same pose giving you a chance for prolonged study in drawing and painting. This course will help you develop your understanding of human structures and form, and to build confidence in handling paint in relation to painting the figure. You will be encouraged to learn to express an imaginative and personal response to the figure.

About this course

- represent the figure effectively in painterly terms
- have an expanded sense of paint handling and technique
- begin to locate areas of personal interest and your own language and style
- produce a painting that demonstrate sustained investigation.

The course fee covers basic materials, consisting of acrylic paint, paper and brushes.

Course programme

Over the two days we will explore the pose starting with direct and dynamic ways of drawing with paint to get the essentials of composition and structure.. We will pace and build the painting in layers, exploring the form of the body through tonal structure. We will explore ways of enriching the surface and adjusting colour-tones to achieve completion on day 2.
You will see how a range of artists tackle the human body in relation to composition, space, form and expression.
We will explore a range of acrylic paint-handling and colour mixing techniques as the paintings develop through examples and demos.

Additional information

You may wish to continue investigating the figure with life drawing courses. Alternatively, you could develop a wider approach to painting by doing any of the various painting courses, including the fine art course. If you wish to pursue a higher education route, you could consider the portfolio preparation programme.
