LightWave Training Overview

West Notts is one of NewTek Europe's authorised LightWave Training Centres and all training is delivered in a state-of-the-art Apple Mac studio with the latest version of Lightwave 3D.

All training for Lightwave 3D is set to an on-demand schedule. This means all you have to do is call and arrange the dates and training you need to kick start your development in Lightwave 3D.

Vision West Nottinghamshire College also provides training for a range of different software applications that include: Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Indesign, Final Cut Pro and more. The college is also an Authorized Apple Training Centre.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided for those undertaking the Lightwave 3D course.

What does the course lead to?

The training is for people who want to develop a career in 3D modeling and animation.

What will I study?
  • Understanding the content directories
  • Principles of polygonal, point and edges modelling techniques
  • Organic modelling, Points and polygons
  • Modify and transform (rotate, stretch properties, flex tool)
  • Distortions (shear, twist, taper and bend)
  • Basic deformations using magnet, vortex, pole and dragnet
  • Creating and naming surface, polygonal bevelling and smooth shifting modelling
  • Using lathe and extrude to maximum effect
  • Generating smooth shapes using rail extrude and splines
  • Cloning, copying and pasting
  • Using spline paths
  • Surface detailing using drill, boolean and bevel
  • Working with subdivision
  • Weight maps
  • Organising scenes, objects and images
  • Importing polygonal objects into layout
  • Editing manually and numerically with move, rotate, size and stretch
  • Pivot points and parenting, Introducing null objects
  • Navigation and set up of camera and lighting options for realism
  • Surfacing options with the surface panel
  • Diffuse and specularity for photo-realistic effects, Setting reflection Transparency refraction texture maps
  • Creating effects using bump maps
