Each of the texts we shall consider offers a unique vision of an identity evolved out of the crucible of displacement. What does it mean to lose one’s home, family, cultural markers? What is lost, what might be gained? How do people come to create home in new spaces, land and cultures? We will discover how the form of literature offers a realm of experimentation and exploration as new, hybrid and self-determinant characters transcend the challenges of their extraordinary journeys.
