The LLM in International Shipping Law (Piraeus, Greece) is created by Queen Mary University of London, following the success of the London-based LLM in International Shipping Law. This programme will be taught by Centre for Commercial Law Studies academic staff at the Hellenic Management Centre (HMC) in Piraeus, Greece. It is aimed at lawyers and professionals with relevant work experience and is taught in one or two intensive blocks, so that you can fit it in with your other commitments.
The Hellenic Management Centre is committed to professional education and development within the shipping industry and is also the Official Educational Provider of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) in Greece.
This LLM programme is accredited by the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.
LLM International Shipping Law (Piraeus, Greece) Partial Scholarships

Protection and Indemnity Clubs workshop (subject to attendance)
The Protection and Indemnity Clubs workshop will examine their operation as mutual insurance associations vital to the existence and running of the international shipping community and trade. It will cover their history, development and structure, their basic rules of cover and the provision of security, as well as the legal concepts underlying their operation.

Course programme

Structure

Module credits 2019-20

Please note that the credit framework for the LLM is changing from 22.5 credit modules to 15 and 30 credit modules for the academic year 2019-20. This will not affect the overall credits that you take for the LLM which is still 180.

Classes are provisionally scheduled to be held from 17.30-21.00 on Thursday, Friday and Monday and from 10-17.00 on Saturday and Sunday.

You will also be assessed on a 15,000 word dissertation, following the London LLM curriculum.

Full-Time

The Full-Time LLM in International Shipping Law (Piraeus, Greece) programme consists of six taught modules (assessed by exams or written essays), taught in intensive teaching blocks over the two academic semesters. The frequency of the teaching is once or twice per month from September to April.

Part-time

The Part-Time option of the programme, is aimed at professionals that they would like to undertake their studies at a controlled pace which will help them to cope with the complexities of highly demanding professional, academic and personal lives.

You will attend the same modules and follow the same teaching timetable as full-time students. However, the part-time programme is spread over two academic years.

In year one, you will normally complete 90 credits of taught modules. In year two, you will normally take a further 45 credits of taught modules and submit the compulsory 15,000-word dissertation (45 credits). The allocation of the modules will be based on a 4 plus 2 plus Dissertation format.
