Course programme
The course is designed to give participants an understanding of the factors which motivate people and influence the way in which they work together. The importance of the main control and cost parameters applicable in logistics management are considered and the potential for their improvement. During the course there are a series of activities to allow the delegates to develop the skills taught during the lessons. These aim to improve their team building skills by developing an understanding of how the behaviour of team leaders and members affects the team structure.

Course Outline
Day 1
Module 1 Motivation & Leadership of People
What makes an effective leader? How do we judge our effectiveness as leaders? What motivates people to work effectively? How does communication and interaction within the working group affect performance?
Module 2 Audit & Optimisation of Operations
Factors to be monitored and methods of data collection and analysis of performance. Use of indicators to determine areas of potential improvement.
Case Study 1 - Costing & Financial Control
The participants, working in small syndicates, explore the build up of cost centres and how the various functions should be costed with consideration of how the costs should be attributed to the main functions.
Day 2
Module 3 Employment Legislation & Personnel Management
The line manager's role in recruitment, training, development and discipline. Managing interviews and procedures, the process and powers of industrial tribunals and the legal framework, illustrated by cases and examples.
Module 4 Inventory Management & Control Techniques
A review of the principles and theory of statistical stock control including DRP and JIT.
Module 5 IT in Warehousing & Distribution
Discussion and demonstration of systems and modelling software for management, planning and control of warehouse and distribution operations.
Case Study 2 - Managing Recruitment Training & Dismissal
Working in syndicates, the practical application of the theory and legislation for managing these critical activities is explored with ongoing feedback to develop a full understanding of the issues and potential pitfalls.
Day 3
Module 6 Monitoring, Control & Management Reports
Distribution is arguably the most important element of the corporate supply chain. This module outlines the techniques and systems which enable the manager to optimise performance on an ongoing basis
Module 7
Legislation, Statutory Requirements & Dealing With the Authorities
As the requirements and penalties become more onerous, with ignorance no defence, the manager must be properly prepared to ensure that his company is not put at risk. EU Directives and legislation on Health & Safety, Fire, Planning and Building Control are outlined and discussed with guidance on approaching the authorities to obtain support and avoid difficulties.
Module 8 Management of Contractors & Suppliers
Third parties play an increasing role in providing the logistics service. Dealing effectively with contractors and suppliers is an essential management skill. We consider the issues involved in outsourcing with examples of the principles involved in creating and managing contracts and relationships.
The course is held in a fully equipped specialist training centre with a range of recreational facilities available to make your stay more pleasant. The course fee is inclusive of lunch, refreshments and a full set of extensive course notes which are separately bound for each module and case study, forming an invaluable source of information.
