Course programme

Structure

The MA is available to study full-time for one year or part-time for 2-4 years in London.

The programme consists of four core modules, two electives, from a range of elective 'specialist' modules. Each module is worth 22.5 credits, except the dissertation (50% specialist case study and 50% 7,500 word essay) that is a 45 credits, with overall 180 credits. To qualify for one of the named specialist awards, the core and elective modules, and dissertation must be relevant to the chosen specialism.

A Distance Learning (DL) Option is also available in Data Protection and IP Specialisation. Students wishing to incorporate DL modules must choose three Distance Learning elective modules worth a total of 45 credits, instead of the two electives.

Specialised MAs
  • MA in Regulation and Compliance (Financial Institutions)
  • MA in Regulation and Compliance (Data protection and IP)
  • MA in Regulation and Compliance (Business and Insurance Law)
  • MA in Regulation and Compliance (Energy).
Induction and choosing your modules

We run a comprehensive two-week induction period that includes an overview of the programme and advice on module selection as well as a range of other vital information sessions. You do not have to select your modules until you have had the opportunity to listen and learn about them in greater detail during induction. More detail of the induction programme will be made available online by early September each year.

Full-time

Undertaking a masters programme is a serious commitment, with weekly contact hours being in addition to numerous hours of independent learning and research needed to progress at the required level. When coursework or examination deadlines are approaching independent learning hours may need to increase significantly.

Part-time

The part-time programme will allow students to complete their studies by any combination of modules offered in London that are part of the programme in a course of 2-4 years. This more flexible structure will cater for students who are not able to study full-time as well as for practitioners who would like to enhance their professional knowledge and career developments on a part-time basis.

Pre-sessional course: Law

Students must attend the pre-sessional course: law which will review concepts such as the difference between common law and civil, general principles of law and the basis of the different areas of law, during induction week offered within the Centre of Commercial Law Studies.
