Course programme

This course aims to bring together people of all abilities and disciplines with a passion for Fashion and Textiles, with the shared interest and curiosity of experimental domestic machine knitting. You will be taken through basic techniques on the domestic knitting machines, using standard yarns (provided), and then research your own ideas towards creating experimental pieces.

Topics covered

You will be given the opportunity to experiment and explore your ideas through two dimensional and three-dimensional knitting sculptures.
Each student will be treated as an individual and your work will reflect your personality and style – you will have weekly tutorials with the lead tutor and will also get the opportunity to meet undergraduate students from Fashion and Textiles who will show their work and talk about their courses

Outcomes
By the end of the course you will have a portfolio of experimental, forward-thinking, raw ideas to be used in future work, as well as a refreshed awareness of your own creative thinking.

You will be shown best practice of presentation for your work and how to put together a portfolio for applying to Foundation, BA or postgraduate courses in fashion and Textiles

Who should take this course

The course is aimed at students who are thinking of applying to Foundation, Degree or postgraduate courses in fashion, knitwear, textiles, costume design or jewellery. However, it is just as suitable for any curious creative person who wants to pick up new skills or even established designers who need a refresh!
