Have you own sewing machine but need to get to grips with what it can do and how you carry out some basic skills?

If so then this six week course has been specifically designed as an introduction to sewing. We deliver this workshop at beginner level so our students can experience and gain confidence with a range of techniques and skills for completing sewing projects.

This course covers:

• Week 1

Getting to know your sewing machine and workspace, choosing your fabric, sewing a seam and making a template to produce some beautiful bunting

• Week 2

Make and take home a lovely cushion cover and learn how to draw a pattern, insert a zip and sew a basic shape

• Week 3

Darts and hemlines, making buttonholes and sewing on a button

• Week 4

Sewing a sleeveless top. You will learn how to read and use a sewing pattern, how to correctly measure, and how to cut out fabric using a pattern

• Week 5

Continue sewing a sleeveless top. You will learn how to shape with darts, create arm holes, use bias binding and finish off seams

• Week 6

Finishing off and making and simple apron

Special Requirements

Additional Equipment - Students will be expected to bring their own electric sewing machine

Material and thread – a list will be included in your instructions sent out prior to attending

Please feel free to bring your own camera along to take photographs of the tutor demonstrations and your own handy work on the day!
