Course structure:
Phase 1 Basic Safety courses, MNTB, workshop skills and National Certificate in Maritime Operation - 29 weeks
Phase 2 First Sea phase. Collecting evidence for training record book * 29 weeks
Phase 3 SQA HNC in Marine Engineering. Completion of MNTB Workshop Skills Profile. * 30 weeks
Undertake Second Engineer Exemptions * 6 weeks
OR
SQA HND in Marine Engineering * 16 weeks
Phase 4 Second sea phase. Completion of evidence for training record book * 18 * 23 weeks
Phase 5 Complete Advanced Safety Courses * 6 weeks Oral Prep course
OR
complete HND in Marine Engineering Advanced Safety Courses and MCA oral prep course * 16 weeks

Entry requirements:
GCSE entry: GCSE passes in four subjects at grade C or above including Mathematics, a Physical Science, English or a subject which makes use of English such as History and one other.

Or National Certificate/Diploma: in Appropriate Subjects (Engineering or Science)

Qualifications achieved:
SQA HNC or HND in Marine Engineering
MCA Engineer Officer of the Watch Certificate of Competence (Marine Engineering Officer)

Progression opportunities:
On successful completion of a cadetship candidate's progression to certification and to the senior ranks of Second and Chief Engineering Officer will follow further training.

B.Eng/B.Eng (Hons) Marine Engineering: Successful completion of HND at Merit Grade or above gives entry into B.Eng or B.Eng(Hons) programme if this option is required.
