Including a foundation year as part of your four-year study programme will give you a head start in your academic and professional life. The foundation year offers the chance to strengthen your skills, knowledge and confidence – with extensive support from our expert staff – before you advance to stage one of your honours degree. It could also be beneficial if you are planning a career change and want to get to grips with aspects of subjects which are new to you.

Our degrees with a foundation year are continuous, meaning that you won’t need to apply again once you have successfully completed the first year.

Roles like digital marketing manager, digital account manager, social media manager, online community manager, SEO analyst and e-commerce manager offer great prospects for the savvy marketing professional.

As the digital world constantly evolves, the career scope is immense. Many employers are still grappling with the opportunities. Many want an input from the ‘born digital’ generation. With this degree on your CV, you’ll be properly qualified to bring the digital revolution to their marketing strategies.

GCSE Maths and English are preferred, however if you don't have these qualifications you will be able to undertake Maths and English at L2 as part of your course of study.

What you will study

Foundation Year

You will study modules such as:

  • Study skills for Business
And you will choose two options from:
  • Law
  • Sociology
  • Political Studies
  • Fundamentals of Human Behaviour
If you don’t have either English or Maths GCSE, you will need to substitute one or two of the above for a module in English and/or Maths.

Stage one

You will study modules such as:

Stage two

You will study modules such as:

Choose one option from:

You can choose to take an optional placement year or move straight to the stage three. Our Careers Office will support you in finding the right position.

Stage three

Choose one option from:
  • Marketing Across Cultures
  • Services and Experiential Marketing
  • Independent Study (runs through both semesters)
Choose two options (or one if undertaking Independent Study) from:

  • Market Sensing
  • Ethics and Sustainability
  • Developing Leadership and Management
  • Social Marketing and Society
