Overview
If you have the ability but not the qualifications, an extended degree is the first step to graduation. This four-year programme is identical to the three-year degree, but includes a foundation year, and has a lower entry tariff. Put your abilities to good use by embarking on a marketing degree ranked third in the UK for student satisfaction in the Complete University Guide 2016 league table. It will be a challenging and rewarding experience.

Foundation year
The foundation year is designed to give you:
A thorough introduction to business and marketing
Essential computing skills
Improved communication
Academic writing skills
An understanding of ethics, enterprise and leadership
The ability to manage your studies independently.
Degree structure
Following your foundation year, you will receive up-to-date skills and a valuable marketing industry qualification in addition to your degree. In your first year of degree level study you will gain a strong foundation in essential marketing principles and have the opportunity to achieve the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Foundation Certificate in Marketing.
You will build on these skills in Year 2 with a focus on market research and the marketing mix. Year 3 takes a strategic perspective and introduces direct, interactive, digital and social marketing. In your third year you will have the option to undertake a work placement to build your core skills.
You will learn to analyse target audiences and implement integrated marketing communications campaigns. You will work on live briefs from a variety of organisations, including the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing.

Professional recognition Students can usually gain exemptions from certain Chartered Institute of Marketing, Market Research Society and Institute of Direct Marketing examinations. The programme also provides exemptions from Market Research Society and Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing examinations. Students who complete the sandwich year (work placement) may gain an additional qualification, the Diploma of Professional Experience (DPE). Careers Graduates may find careers as advertising account executives organising advertising campaigns, social media managers engaging with social media channels, marketing executives promoting products and services and copywriters communicating business messages.
