Marks and Surface
Tutor: Susan Preston
3 day drawing and mixed media course
Starting with drawings from observation explore mark making and materials. You will work from your studies to develop a series of abstract or figurative works on paper made with a variety of water based media - ink, pastels and paint.
Course Outline:
Using a variety of drawing materials and beginning by working in sketchbooks, students will make studies in the environs of Rabley. Later in the workshop further drawings will explore mark making and combining motifs from these studies which will form the basis of a series of works on paper made with a variety of water based media - ink, pastels, paint. An intuitive response to the surfaces - or ‘accidents’ - created by the working process plays an important part in the development of the work.
“She is a true inspiration - and things that she said still play through my mind (eg ‘lose it, find it, lose it’ .... ‘what happens when’ ). Please tell her what a great influence she has been” SG
