A Master of Teaching (Primary) with Charles Sturt University is a graduate-entry online degree that prepares you to teach children aged from five to 12, helping them develop the knowledge, skills and dispositions to provide the best possible start in life.

This postgraduate primary school teaching course enables you to obtain a teaching qualification in two years of full-time or four years of part-time study. A range of subjects are offered in Session 3 to accelerate the completion of your degree or spread your study commitments across the year.

Subjects

For each 8 point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, residential schools, or examinations.

If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.

As a Charles Sturt University student, throughout your course you have a responsibility to continue to develop skills in English language, literacy and numeracy as appropriate to your discipline. This ongoing development will enable you to effectively participate in your course and graduate prepared to enter the workforce.

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 128 points.Full subject list
The course structure for the Master of Teaching (Primary) consists of 17 core subjects (a total of 128 points). All subjects have a value of 8 points, with the exception of two subjects which have a zero point value and the final placement subject which has a 16 point value. The basic course structure consists of 17 subjects made up of 14 core education subjects, one primary teaching area* subject and two professional experience subjects.

*NOTE: References to a primary teaching area within the Master of Teaching (Primary) course equate to a primary specialty in addition to study in each of the learning areas of the primary school curriculum as defined by NESA (NSW Educational Standards Authority).
