Course programme

Course review:

In heavy industries such as the oil and gas sector, mining and utilities it is usual for there to be an on-going round of capital expenditure projects aimed at improving or expanding the plant or its infrastructure. Ranging from a few hundred thousand dollars to several million dollars overall budget the materials element is always a major component of the total spend. Close and early involvement in the project of professional material specialists can bring significant benefits in terms of wise commercial decision making and of practical control of the timely flow of materials into the project.

The course provides participants with:

  • an understanding of capital expenditure projects, how they are developed, planned and executed.
  • awareness of organisational issues that affect procurement and supply performance within a project and the longer-term operational phase.
  • consideration of the differences between 'day-to-day' procurement (for maintenance & operations) and project procurement.
  • the ability to advise Project Management on the full range of project related procurement and logistics matters, from front end issues to closeout and surplus management.
  • the ability to recommend appropriate procurement strategies, and to employ different tools and techniques, for different project circumstances.
