Course programme
Course Overview
Improve your Maths skills and acquire a qualification asked for by employers or needed for entry onto other courses, especially Higher Education.
Course Structure
This is a part-time programme delivered over one year once a week on a Wednesday afternoon or Thursday evening.
The following topics will be covered:
- Number
- Shape and space
- Statistics
- Algebra
Qualification Aims
GCSE Maths is frequently asked for by employers and is often a necessity for entry into other educational courses.
Assessments/Examinations
Regular internal assignments will be set.
During November there will be an internal assignment to consider students- suitability for the rest of the course. At this stage you will be given the opportunity to enter/transfer to an adult numeracy qualification should you so choose.
There is no coursework. Assessment is by 2 exams at the end of the course; each paper is 1½ hours(Foundation) or 1¾ hours (Higher) with 50% of total marks for each.
Foundation Tier offers grades up to C.
Higher Tier offers grades up to A*.
Tier of entry is decided towards end of Term 1.
Cost / Equipment
Tuition fee for students 19 or over at the start of the course, including exam fee:£188
You will need stationery, folder, pen, pencil, geometric instruments and a standard scientific calculator.You will also be required to purchase a recommended textbook. Full details will be given at the start of the course.
Free tuition is available to those aged 16-18 or who are in receipt of certain means tested benefits orto their un-waged dependants. If you are not on benefits but find it difficult to pay any course related costs because of financial hardship, we may also be able to help.
