The application of computers to machines, advances in materials technology and process development and the use of advanced control systems have revolutionised the engineer’s role. The challenges and rewards for skilled engineers who can design, manufacture and manage products and processes are greater than ever. Our programmes will help you reach the professional and intellectual standards required for an exciting and rewarding career in a wide variety of industries.

Information Technology is used to underpin programmes and state-of-the-art, industry standard software is used for design and system simulation.

Subject guide & modules

A 3-year full-time or 4-year sandwich programme incorporating a year of relevant professional experience. The first year of our programme encompasses a broad study of the fundamental disciplines of mechanical, electrical and design engineering. It is structured to suit students from all backgrounds. The flexible structure of our degrees enables transfer between Mechanical and ElectroMechanical and Design Engineering programmes and full-time/sandwich routes during these first two years.

Your second and final year incorporate a combination of core material and elective modules which will give you the opportunity to study areas of particular personal interest or professional relevance. Your final year project, involving design, experimental or analytical work can also be tailored to suit your own interests.

Throughout the programme we emphasise business and communication skills which will enhance your ability to write and present technical essays and reports.

The broad basis of our programme, together with the possibilities for specialisation, will make you attractive to employers from a wide spectrum of industries.
