This Build your own MA (BYOMA) short course is aimed at teachers and educators new to teaching media and those already teaching media who are looking to improve their professional practice. It explores a range of media practices currently foregrounded in media education and will provide you with an advanced understanding of key dynamics of contemporary media practice and the ability to apply this understanding to your pedagogic practices.
This course involves a two day creative retreat followed by seven weeks of online learning.
The face-to-face and online activities will provide you with an opportunity to unpack learning about media practice and engage in debate and then to develop and refine pedagogic applications in a peer context. You will shape your pedagogic application with support from peers and tutors during the online phase, produce a proposal form for approval and be supported by a tutorial before presenting the pedagogic strategy.
Through engagement with the virtual learning environment, you will develop your critical understanding and experienced media educators and practitioners will bring specialist perspectives to help inform the debate and support the development of pedagogic strategies.
