  • Having already done a 2 year Makeup course in a local college I felt I didnt learn enough skills to make it confidently into the industry therefore i decided to go to The school of Makeup and get what you pay for. The knowledge and skill set you need in order to make it in the industry and be professional. The course is definately value for money and worth every penny. The tutors are absolutely fantastic and are there to teach as well as help, support and guide you down the right path to get the makeup career you have always wanted! Each tutor has expertise within the makeup field. Elaine the school principle is absolutely fantastic! You couldnt ask for a better mentor. Shes knows everything about the industry and there isnt a question she couldn't answer. She has created a school which has a friendly and family atmosphere and you always have the support if needed even after you have finished the course.I can honestly say you cant get a better school with the skill base this one has to offer within the North West or be it England.I have loved being part of the school and I am happy I did the course to get me to where i am now. If you are serious in becoming a makeup artist then this course is what you need, it has everything all rolled into one. You will be always be a part of the school even when you leave as they are always seeing how you are and you can always pop in to see Elaine or any of the other tutors. You can also build a portfolio whilst there for going into the industry which is fantastic to set you up ready for potential clients which many courses dont offer. I learnt more in 16 weeks than I did in 2 years on my previous course.I would recommend to anyone who has a passion for Makeup and hair and are wanting to do this for a profession.I loved every minute of my experience at the School of Makeup and consider it my second home.Thank you to everyone there and to the tutors for teaching me the best skills and knowledge within the industry. sept 2009

  • I would highly reccomed the course to anyone who wants to be come a professional within the Makeup Industry. All the tutors are helpful, kind and teach you so much knowledge to create the best skill set to work with. You learn everything you need to be a makeup artist. The course is at a very high standard and you will be pushed to find a better course within the North west. Very impressed with the school and tutors.
This school is one of the best for media make-up and hair, as you are taught by some of the best professionals within the industry. The venue of the school is brilliant, its in a lovely old mill down a small cobbled street. inside is highly modern, stylish and inspiring to work and learn in. there are learing equipment such as books for reference and access to computers within the common room of the school. The students have their own area to hang out at dinner, look on the web and their own kitchen. Everything is there that you need for the course. All Makeup is provided whilst learning so you dont need to use the ones in the kit which is given. Everything you could possibly need is at the school. You can also build a portfolio whilst there for going into the industry which is fantastic to set you up ready for potential clients which many courses dont offer.

Course programme

We refer to "Media" as working in all areas such as fashion, TV, video, stage, special FX and film, so that the content and skills learnt are fully comprehensive and cover all areas. Students who train in this area are more likely to achieve successful careers as their skills/knowledge are more varied, meeting the demands of the media industry.

In short, 10 week graduates will be multi skilled, offering beneficial gain to any employer. Another huge benefit on this course is portfolio week. Week 10 of this course is dedicated solely to the development of your portfolio (the most crucial factor in gaining your work). Each day of portfolio week will be your chance to exercise all skills learnt, and gain valuable experience in working with professional models and a photographer in a real studio environment to create numerous images, which you can proudly display in your portfolio.

A typical day will be doing the make-up of one female model. The models are varied in age and race to provide your portfolio with as much variance as possible. We will also help you create a hairstyle to compliment your work. You will choose your model's outfit with our guidance and work on set, maintaining your work and assisting the photographer. This experience is as real as being on a professional job and will give you confidence in this area when entering your career (see Portfolio).

All of the days of portfolio week will be on location at a professional photography studio.
