What you need to know
How will I study?

You will study a wide range of media through textual analysis of media texts from a range of diverse platforms. This will include the study of visual and technical codes, narrative, genre, language and mode of address. You will consider how different groups of people, events and issues are represented in the media and how audiences are targeted, receive, interact and respond to the media. Basic Photoshop will be taught to produce print based texts.
How will I be taught?

Presentations will accompany most lessons and will be available afterwards on the college intranet for revision purposes. There will be some full screenings (although we are not a Film Appreciation Society so don't expect this most lessons). Individual and group creative activities, written assignments/timed questions to improve written communication skills and lots of interactive discussion (crucial to understand the viewpoints of others). Computer tuition in Photoshop and creative design.
How will I be assessed?

Formative assessment will be through a variety of methods, including timed questions, an essay based exam and related pieces of coursework. Summative assessment with be through a 2 1/2 hour written exam and three pieces of coursework (equal weighting)
