Principles of Assessment in Medical Education

  • Critically evaluate assessment methods
  • Design self-assessment/peer assessment exercises
  • Demonstrate standard setting techniques
  • Critically evaluate feedback scenarios

Medical Education Research

  • Summarise medical education research approaches and appraise the role of theory within education research
  • Critically explore key ethical considerations in medical education research
  • Critically evaluate key methods (data collection and data analysis) in medical education research
  • Create a theoretically informed, coherent and rigorous medical education research proposal

Curriculum Planning and Evaluation

  • Examine critically the theoretical underpinnings of the concept: ‘curriculum’
  • Critically appraise the information related to curriculum theory, principles and trends and apply in the design of a curriculum
  • Appraise how quality assurance and quality enhancement are considered in curriculum design
  • Develop an original proposal for curriculum evaluation that is relevant to their own context and illustrates critical awareness of current issues in evaluation

Leadership in Healthcare and Healthcare Education

  • Critically appraise current theoretical perspectives related to leadership
  • Explore and critically reflect on change management principles and the application of theory into practice
  • Critically evaluate the different facets of leadership and how they apply to the workplace
  • Synthesise their learning in order to create and deliver a plan for change within their own workplace context

Clinical Teaching

  • Appraise the roles, responsibilities and attributes of the clinical teacher in relation to current approaches to supporting learning in the workplace
  • Critically appraise the usefulness of theories and models of workplace learning in relation to clinical teaching and learning in your own context

Dissertation

  • Develop and apply a literature search strategy
  • Synthesize the literature into a coherent and critical account of the relevant published literature

  • Present and defend the chosen methodology, analysis and conclusions
