Summary

This half day course is for workers in residential or community
settings who wish to explore and develop an understanding of common
medicines, dispensing techniques and poly pharmacy, observation skills when
supporting individuals.

Who should attend?

This course is relevant to care workers who support individuals in all care
settings – hospital, residential, day- or foster-care or in the individual’s
own home.

Proposed Learner Outcomes - The worker must be able to

• Understand the legislative framework for the use of medication in social
care settings
• Know about common types of medication and their use and side effects
• Understand roles and responsibilities in the use of medication in social
care settings
• Understand techniques for administering medication
• Know how to promote the rights of the individual when managing
medication
• Be able to observe, record and report on use of medication
