Introducing your degree
Working with world-class researchers, this 4-year programme will take you to the cutting edge of knowledge in Pure or Applied Mathematics or Statistics, pushing you much further than the traditional 3-year course. You will develop your skills in analytical, abstract and structured thinking in a programme that covers the full range of mathematics from modern cryptography to the modelling of black holes.
With a structured foundation of algebra, calculus, number theory, statistics and mathematical modelling you will acquire skills and knowledge in an exceptionally broad range of topics in the mathematical sciences. In the fourth year, you will have the opportunity to study advanced concepts such as group theory, general relativity and survival analysis that are otherwise studied at MSc level.
Southampton graduates from this programme are highly sought after by employers in finance, commerce, industry, and education, and are particularly well placed to follow careers in research.
