What qualifications do I need?

The Apprenticeship programme is for young people between the ages of 16 and 24 who wish to pursue a career in the motor vehicle industry. You will need to have grades A* - C in English, Maths and ICT, and also be in employment within a motor vehicle workshop or dealership. Alternatively you may be progressing from a Level 2 Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship or a full-time Motor Vehicle course.

What’s involved?

Diagnosis and repair of the modern motor vehicle which includes:

• Chassis technology
• Engine technology
• Transmission technology
• Advanced vehicle electrical systems
• Functional Skills associated with the motor vehicle industry
• Health and Safety

How will I be studying?

You will be working at your place of employment and you will be required to attend College for day release.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed via online assessments, assessments of competence through workplace observations and written assignments.

Where can I move on to after this course?

On successful completion of the Apprenticeship you will achieve the IMI Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Diagnosis and Repair. You will achieve the status of a Fully Qualified Diagnostic Motor Vehicle Technician, which will be the basis for becoming an MOT vehicle inspector, workshop controller or Service Manager.
