This Motorsport Engineering course runs in 2016/17.

Motorsport is at the cutting edge of innovation in the global engineering industry and the UK is a world leader in the field. This course is designed to help ensure it stays that way.

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

Coventry is a world-renowned centre for motorsport and performance engineering on both two wheels and four. Excellent links with the UK performance engineering industry ensure that the course benefits from the latest technical content and provides you with broad and detailed coverage of the essentials of motorsport engineering and its key applications.

Our Motorsport Engineering degree course aims to equip you with the necessary expertise for you to make a significant and early contribution to both industry and society as a Graduate Motorsport Engineer.

If you choose this course you will benefit from:

  • Close links with employers in the performance engineering industry, including Red Bull Racing, the Auto-Cycle Union, Lotus Cars, Penske Racing and Triumph Motorcycles;
  • state-of-the-art facilities including a new wind tunnel, a new CNC machining centre, a new engine test cell and a full-size shaker rig;
  • regular lectures delivered by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE);
  • placement opportunities for you to apply for with a wide variety of motorsport and performance engineering companies, across a range of disciplines;
  • the chance to be involved in exciting projects, such as Formula Student and/or Shell Eco-marathon;
  • this course meets, in part, the exemplifying academic benchmark requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer and students will need to complete an approved format of further learning pursuant to the requirements of UK-SPEC. The BEng(Hons) also automatically meets the exemplifying academic benchmark requirements for registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng).

The Faculty’s Employability and Placement team, EC Futures, are the proud winners of the Best University Placement Service (UK 2015) presented by the NUE Awards.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You will specialise in Performance Engineering, Design for Performance, Aerodynamics, Vehicle Dynamics, Powertrain, Advanced Materials and Manufacture, and the Motorsport Group Project.

Your main themes of study will be:

Design: the innovative resolution of design problems focused on commercially viable solutions.

Analysis: you will learn to use industry standard software to model, analyse and validate vehicle behaviour, components and systems.

Management: the application of principles and practices utilised to assure effective business operation.

Sustainability: an ethical approach to work by protecting the best interests of life and the environment.

Practical: investigation and analysis using laboratory, workshop and computer-based techniques.

HOW WILL THIS COURSE BE TAUGHT?
