Course Content & Certificate
The course is designed for care staff working with ambulant/weight bearing clients where staff are required to provide minimal moving and handling assistance to clients.
Content:
Theory: health and safety law - risk avoidance, assessment and reduction -
responsibilities of employers, staff and volunteers - basic anatomy, physiology, nature of injury - efficient movement and ergonomics
Practical: manoeuvres and transfers, e.g. sitting to standing, assisted walking, stairs, wheelchair use, car transfers, transfer aids
Successful completion of the course gives a Training for Care Attendance Certificate which meets statutory requirements for risk reduction.
Tutors and Teaching
All tutors are TfC professional associates and health care professionals (chartered physiotherapists or nurses) and are experienced in modern approaches to manual handling.
Teaching is interactive and practical, and incorporates a problem solving approach to moving and handling issues.
