MOVING AND HANDLING
Course Content & Certificate
The course is designed for care staff working with both fully dependent and
ambulant/weight bearing clients. Work tasks include a high level of moving an handling assistance to be provided to clients.
Content:
Theory: health and safety law – risk assessment – responsibilities of employers, staff, and volunteers – basic anatomy, physiology, nature of injury.
Practical: manoeuvres and transfers, e.g. sitting to standing,
assisted walking, stairs, car transfers, wheelchair use, use of glide sheets, transfer aids, movement of clients in bed, safe handling of inanimate loads
Successful completion of the course gives a Training for Care Attendance Certificate which meets statutory requirements for risk reduction.
Tutors and Teaching
All tutors are TfC professional associates and health care professionals (chartered physiotherapists or nurses) and are experienced in modern approaches to manual handling.
Teaching is interactive and practical, and incorporates a problem solving approach to moving and handling issues.
