The MSc Advanced Clinical Practice (Critical Care) is designed for experienced critical care practitioners who are seeking to deepen their underpinning knowledge and understanding in the field of critical care. The course will prepare you to become a more senior practitioner within your chosen field. The programme covers core learning in relation to research and evidence based practice, and a specialist module in advanced critical care practice. There are also opportunities to undertake modules in assessment, diagnosis and non medical prescribing. In addition, those working at or towards advanced practitioner roles within the UK can elect to study a programme aligned to the newly agreed standards set out by the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine.

CORE HLTH6115 Decision Making for Advanced Clinical Practice or HLTH6074 Diagnostic Assessment and Decision Making (must be preceded by Principles of History Taking and Physical Assessment) HLTH6059 Dissertation HLTH6107 Research Methods for Evidence Based Practice HLTH6128 Transition to Advanced Practice (Standard, Children & Young People, Critical Care and Midwifery pathways) Required HLTH6086 Advancing Practice in Critical Care Plus a choice of two of the following HLTH6078 Contemporary Advances in Cardiology HLTH6108 Independent and Supplementary Prescribing: Prescribing in Practice * HLTH6120 Pharmacology and Applied Clinical Science for Prescribing and Advanced Medicines Management HLTH6121 Principles of History Taking and Physical Assessment HLTH6130 Work Based Learning 40 Credits or open Module - 20 Credits/10ECTS (or 40 credits/20ECTS in lieu of selecting two required module choices) *HLTH6108 may only be taken if HLTH6120 is also selected and the two modules are studied concurrently. If you wish to become an Advanced Critical Care Practitioner you will be guided to follow a modified version of the Advanced Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practitioner pathway.
