Overview
The programme provides a sound basis for medical and dental practitioners who aspire to manage complex facial injuries from either background.
This part-time, distance learning MSc which runs over a two-year period allows longitudinal academic support enabling the practitioner to develop their understanding of the subject and to apply this to their own practice. The Masters in Craniofacial Trauma and Reconstruction provides a structured distance learning programme to support both education and clinical practice surgeons working in this field.
The programme is suitable for both junior and senior trainees from senior house officer level two senior higher surgical trainee. The programme is designed to support trainees in oral surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, craniofacial surgery, ophthalmology, ENT, and neurosurgery who aspire to manage complex facial injuries.
The programme is particularly suitable for students who are undertaking structured surgical training and wish a robust framework to develop true multidisciplinary skills.
The degree includes an optional summer school.
This programme will:
Familiarise you with up-to-date, novel, and evidence-based multidisciplinary clinical practice in all aspects of facial trauma surgery
Help you develop your knowledge and understanding in specialties allied to facial trauma surgery
Include one-to-one webinars to discuss aspects of your own clinical practice
Help you develop critical reading skills to assess scientific literature
Facilitate you in scientific paper writing skills, clinical audit, and simple study design

Structure
The programme format is distance learning, part time, and designed to fit around a training rotation. Digital material will be supplied in written, and video format, and one-to-one webinar discussions and small-group teaching sessions designed to maximise education and knowledge acquisition in the most time effective manner. Numerous short documents allow bite-size learning without overburdening the student.

DISSERTATION (15,000 words)60 Credits - This would be on an aspect of facial trauma management to supplement current opinion - ie a literature search and review.
Summer SchoolThere is a week residential programme in the summer of the first year and opportunities to visit the unit for a week during the programme.
Throughout the program candidates will be supported to produce a paper based upon the programme and their own cases to standard of peer reviewed publication.
