Dental Public Health focuses on preventing oral diseases and improving the oral health of populations. Addressing the major oral health issues and the global challenges facing dental care systems in the current political economy requires strategic planning, evidence-informed decision-making and strong public health leadership.
The new online Dental Public Health, Policy and Leadership Postgraduate Certificate aims to give students a clear understanding of the principles and practice of Dental Public Health using interactive and innovative teaching methods that cover foundational topics.
The Dental Public Health, Policy and Leadership Postgraduate Diploma builds on the certificate course by including four additional modules that allow students to develop “real world” transferrable public health skills.
Students taking the Dental Public Health, Policy and Leadership MSc degree will complete the seven core modules from the Postgraduate Diploma course and select one of four MSc modules to gain advanced or more specialised skills and knowledge.
MSc students will also complete a research dissertation in the second year of their programme based on their own research interests (up to 20,000 word written report).

Structure

Postgraduate MSc in Dental Public Health, Policy and Leadership

Students must pass 180 credits to be awarded a Postgraduate Master’s degree.

One of the four MSc module options (15 credit modules)

  • Leadership and Planning in Health and Public Services (run in collaboration with the School of Business and Management)

Students will complete a 60 credits research dissertation which is a written report of project (20,000 words maximum).This dissertation will be a written report (20,000 words maximum) of a research project from three options:

  • A qualitative or quantitative research project using data collected in own country
  • A systematic review or scoping review
  • An oral health needs assessment or public health report

MSc students can also attend an optional two-week summer placement in the Institute of Dentistry, QMUL as part of the Leadership and Planning in Health and Public Services module (non-credit bearing).
