The MSc Leadership and Management is a dynamic and contextually relevant course for those who wish to progress their careers and to develop as professionals. The course develops your knowledge, understanding and conceptual awareness, and additionally develops your skills. It is designed for those who are new to management roles, for those who are beginning to lead teams, functions and decision-making in their organisations, but also for those with limited pre-existing leadership or management experience, who wish to become leaders and managers in organisations.

The MSc Leadership and Management course provides opportunities to develop a blend of functional and operational perspectives for a range of managerial levels, roles and responsibilities across sectors, for applicants who may have limited managerial experience / management education. You will study perspectives on the concept of leadership and also learn about functional topics including marketing management, international human resource management, and finance. You will also study strategic planning and learn how to lead transformation and change, which is of importance in the dynamic organisations of today and tomorrow. Your knowledge will be integrated and contextualized through a range of modules, culminating in a dissertation project.  

In a dynamic global environment, a complexity of factors, including technology, enterprise and innovation have a significant impact on business and organisational systems and functions. A key organisational challenge is to bring about beneficial change. Change for some organisations is in itself not enough and only transformation will do. Effective leadership of such processes is clearly of vital importance. The purpose of this module is to challenge managers and aspiring managers to consider the practical issues associated with effective change leadership from a range of different conceptual perspectives and so be better equipped within the work place.

This module introduces you to the range of perspectives which exist on what constitutes effective leadership in organisations. Taking a critical approach to classical and contemporary theories, models and frameworks of leadership, it evaluates the claims, prescriptions and evidence offered in support of a range of approaches. It also includes a consideration of issues related to leadership behaviour in organisations, such as power, authority, trust and politics, and considers the application of theory in practice.

This module provides a vehicle to integrate strategic understanding and functional thinking (such as marketing and finance) within the framework of a business plan and its associated processes. As such it will provide an opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs, managers and leaders to think strategically, and select and apply appropriate practical strategic tools and techniques possibly for the first time. The learning will involve relating theory to current businesses and assessment will involve evaluation of real life plans.


  • Critically analyse the use of the key functional areas of marketing, finance and strategic planning in support of wider organisational activity.
  • Critically discuss traditional and emergent perspectives on the qualities of leadership and the role of management in an organisational context.
  • Critically evaluate the relationship between the organisation and its human resources in the international environment.
  • Critically analyse contemporary issues, challenges and problems relating to transformation and change that impact on organisations and the role of business managers.
  • Critically analyse the importance and nature of organisational planning, developing organisational activities within the context of external influences.
  • Synthesise relevant critical thinking through academic research completing an independent research project/dissertation at masters level.

These fees relate to new entrants only for the academic year indicated for entry onto the course, any subsequent years study may be subject to an annual increase, usually in line with inflation.


  • A good honours undergraduate degree (second class or above) from a UK university or overseas equivalent, or a professional qualification and/or experience considered to be equivalent to the above;
  • A reference from a tutor who has supervised the applicant’s undergraduate studies and/or employer;
  • Students may apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL) subject to the guidelines set out in the RPL Handbook. RPL includes accreditation of prior certificated learning and /or accreditation of prior experiential learning;
  • Please check our minimum language entry requirements before submitting your application;
  • We offer a range programmes in English as a Foreign Language if you don't meet these requirements.

Applications are also welcome from individuals who do not possess the above qualifications but who have significant management experience and are able to demonstrate previous non-certificated learning equivalent to the above. In such cases, admission to the programme will be based on an evaluation of the applicant’s ability to continue to benefit from and achieve the award.


Postgraduate Loan (Home Fee Status):

You may be able to get a postgraduate student loan from Student Finance England of up to £11,750 to help pay for a Master’s degree. Applications are made through Student Finance England and more information on the regulations and eligibility criteria can be found at Masters Loans gov.uk.

* Any RPL will invalidate your eligibility as you must study a minimum of 180 credits


Changes for EU students:

The UK government has confirmed that EU students starting courses from 1 August 2021 will normally be classified as Overseas (International) students for fee purposes. More information about the change is available at UKCISA:

You can get 20% discount on a taught on-site postgraduate course if you’re a University of Wolverhampton Graduate.

The University offers a generous 20% Loyalty Discount to students progressing from an undergraduate programme to a taught postgraduate programme, where both courses are University of Wolverhampton Awards.

There is no time limit on how long ago you completed your degree as long as this is your first Masters level qualification.

Self-funded:

If you are paying for the fees yourself then the fees can be paid in 3 instalments: November, January and April. More information can be found by clicking here.


Sponsored - Your employer, embassy or organisation can pay for your Tuition fees:

Your employer, embassy or organisation agrees to pay all or part of your tuition fees; the University will refer to them as your sponsor and will invoice them for the appropriate amount.

We must receive notification of sponsorship in writing as soon as possible, and before enrolment, confirming that the sponsor will pay your tuition fees.


Financial Hardship:

Students can apply to the Dennis Turner Opportunity Fund for help with course related costs however this cannot be used for fees or to cover general living costs.

Most charities and trust funds offer limited bursaries targeted to specific groups of students so you will need to research whether any of them are relevant to your situation.
