Programme at a Glance Year 1

  • Clinical Knowledge of Non-Surgical Cosmetic Interventions (NSCI) (20 credits)
  • Clinical Skills for Non-Surgical Interventions (NSCI) (20 credits)

First year studies develop the in-depth knowledge and understanding of aesthetic medicine required to prepare practitioners for safe and proficient patient-centred care, and delivery of a range of non-surgical cosmetic interventions (NSCI).

Face-to-face sessions encourage students to apply the principles of evidence-based practice to provide a rationale for decisions to treat and not treat, and for choice of treatment modality. Underpinned by clinical knowledge, you’ll deliver aesthetic medicine interventions within a CQC registered cosmetic clinical facility, under the direction and guidance of recognised experts in medical and cosmetic practice.

You will be expected to demonstrate safe and proficient clinical skills including: the ability to assess and evaluate the patient, take a relevant history and assess needs to develop an appropriate treatment plan, evaluate and interpret risk indicators and communicate potential risks and benefits to patients, record clinical photographs and demonstrate professionalism, clinical governance and accountability.

Appraising the Clinical Literature (20 credits)

Developing your ability to locate, select and interpret information from a wide variety of published sources related to non-surgical cosmetic interventions, and to critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the clinical literature using objective methodologies.

Year 2

Clinical Practice of Non-Surgical Cosmetic Interventions (NSCI) (60 credits)

Second year studies extend and enhance clinical knowledge and skills of aesthetic medicine, requiring students to demonstrate safe and proficient delivery of advanced clinical therapies including: the ability to assess and evaluate complex and multifactorial patient presentations, evaluate and interpret risk indicators and communicate potential risks and benefits of proposed treatment plans to patients and where applicable, other healthcare professionals for referral of surgical/invasive cosmetic procedures.

Professionalism, clinical governance and accountability, are central to aesthetic medicine, and you will be required to evidence knowledge and understanding of the professional codes and scope of practice. Reflective practice skills are developed as part of lifelong learning and professional development.

Year 3

Professional Project (60 credits)

The dissertation is a major component in the final year of the master’s programme. You will be expected to take responsibility for designing, conducting and analysing the results of a substantial investigation, which will make a contribution to the discipline under scrutiny. You are encouraged to adopt a balanced perspective in the treatment process through careful analysis of appropriate research material. The project will be written up in the agreed master’s degree format. You’ll also be encouraged to submit articles suitable for presentation at appropriate conferences and where possible, for publication in a specialty related journal.
