About MSci Mathematics and Physics
This four-year course is particularly suited to students who have a strong interest in theoretical physics or applied mathematics and wish to study these at an advanced level.
Your mathematics study will focus on the areas of applied mathematics that are most linked to physics, such as the mathematical modelling of physical problems, quantum mechanics, quantum chaos and random matrix theory. You will also cover a range of topics in physics, such as thermal physics, electromagnetism and semiconductors.
You will take 70 credit points in mathematics and 50 in physics in the first year. All first-year units are mandatory.
Second-year units are mostly fixed but in years three and four you can choose options to suit your interests across both mathematics and physics. You will complete a physics project in your fourth year.
