The musical composer is a real artist, whose task is to create pieces by following the entire process, from the writing of the notes to the coordination of the melodies up to the act of filing with the competent bodies. This compositional technique, in the cultured European tradition, presupposes the study of numerous disciplines, such as harmony, counterpoint, orchestration, and all the rules of the different musical forms. In the field of jazz and more generally of music based on improvisation (or at least in which improvisation has a relevant part), we sometimes speak of "extemporaneous musical composition". The musical compositions are the result of the organization of the musical language with the aim of creating works of various kinds. All ' Within the anthropological distinction between cultures with a written and oral tradition we find different approaches to composition, especially linked to the different social functions that the various cultures attribute to music. However, universal characteristics belong to the musical composition which can be found in the choice of the musical system within which to compose, this will determine the rhythmic, melodic and, in the West, harmonic character of the work. Another universal can be found in the need, common to all cultures, to choose a form within which to compose.
