About this course

- an understanding of the ideas – both musical and political - that influenced the music produced in Russia during and after the revolutions of 1917
- knowledge about the most significant composers living and working in Russia at this time
- specific knowledge of certain works that reflect the changes taking place in Russian music during those years.

Course programme

The course will explore the ideas - both musical, cultural and political - that helped in the creation of a new revolutionary Russian sound world, by focusing on music by, amongst others, Myaskovsky and Shostakovich.
